Chichen Itza is a two and a half hour drive from Taninah. The ruins in this impressive archaeological site date from 1500 B.C. Chichen Itza offers an incredible array of temples relating to religion, rituals, astronomy, and recreation. This fact makes Chichen Itza a good pick if you are only going to do one or two Mayan ruins, as you will be able to see a wide variety of structures.
Chichen Itza requires a full day among driving, touring the ruins, and eating. You’re best off getting an early start to try to beat the crowds and in order to avoid driving after dark.
